1. About the University

Tianjin University of Technology (TUT) is a multidisciplinary university under the administration of Tianjin Municipality, focusing on engineering while integrating science, technology and engineering, with coordinated development of engineering, science, technology, management, liberal arts, arts and other disciplines. It is also a key university of the Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program. Founded in 1979, the TUT is a key municipal university that has been growing rapidly with China's reform and opening-up and the modernization of Tianjin. It has established a complete higher education talent training system for bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs. The TUT has 15 schools, 68 undergraduate majors, 4 first-level disciplines authorized to grant doctoral degrees, 22 first-level disciplines authorized to grant master's degrees, 13 master's degree authorization points, and 4 postdoctoral research stations. The TUT has 20 national leading experts, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Yangtze River Scholars, National Distinguished Young Scholars, winners of National Outstanding Youth funds, state-level candidates of the “National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project in the New Century”, and winners of National Distinguished Teacher Award, 136 provincial-level experts, including Tianjin Outstanding Scholars, Tianjin Distinguished Professors, candidates of Tianjin Municipal High-Level Personnel of Special Support Program and the first-level candidates for Tianjin’s “131” innovative talent team, and 19 high-level innovation teams, providing a strong talent pool for the development of the TUT.

The TUT advocates collaborative and inclusive education and attaches great importance to exchanges and cooperation with Chinese and international universities and scientific research institutions. So far, the TUT has established cooperation with 140 renowned universities and scientific research institutions in 36 countries and regions; 6 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects of the TUT have cultivated a large number of talent with an international vision and launched Tianjin’s first national “111” Project and New Energy Materials Innovation and Intelligence Base as well as the International Cooperation Laboratory of the Ministry of Education. The TUT has established 2 Confucius Institutes and 1 Confucius Classroom in Poland and Cote d’Ivoire, set up the Belt and Road Central and Eastern Europe Institute, and joined the China-Poland University Alliance as its only university member in Tianjin, with exchange programs with 12 universities in Poland. By the end of 2023, the TUT has enrolled more than 10,000 international students, with students in academic degree programs covering bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. The TUT offers courses in its strong disciplines and recruits international students from all over the world.

3. Application Eligibility

1.Non-Chinese citizens meeting the requirements of the JIAOWAI HAN [2020] No. 12 issued by the Ministry of Education;

2.Apply for an undergraduate program: High school graduate (those who have not yet graduated at the time of application must provide a pre-graduation certificate, and must obtain a high school diploma before enrollment at the latest) being no more than 25 years old.

Apply for master's and doctoral degree programs: Holding a bachelor's degree and being no more than 35 years old.

3.For majors taught in Chinese, the Chinese proficiency of applicants must reach HSK Level 4 with a score of 180 or above, and a score report must be provided.

4.Applicants must be of integrity, in good health, and willing to abide by Chinese laws and regulations and the rules and regulations of Tianjin University of Technology.

4. Materials Required for Application

International students applying to Tianjin University of Technology must truthfully provide the following materials:

1.Application for Admission to Tianjin University of Technology for International Students（please see Appendix)

2.A scanned color copy of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners

Applicants should have physical checkups for items required in the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (which is uniformly printed by the Chinese health and quarantine department) and fill it out in Chinese or English. A Physical Examination Record for Foreigners that has missing items, does not have a photo of the applicant or a seal on the photo, or does not have the signature and seal of the doctor and hospital is invalid. The physical examination result is valid for 6 months, and applicants should determine the time for their physical examination accordingly.

4.Original and notarized copy of the highest academic degree certificate(fresh graduates must submit a pre-graduation certificate officially issued by their college.)

5.Original and notarized copy of all academic transcripts in high school, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs

6.Reference Letter

To apply for a master's or doctoral degree program, the applicant must submit two reference letters from professors or associate professors.

7. A study or research plan in China

Applicants must submit a study or research plan in China written in Chinese or English. (No less than 500 words for undergraduate programs, no less than 800 words for master’s degree programs, and no less than 1,500 words for doctoral degree programs).

8.Research achievements

Published papers, awards/certificates, invention patents and other materials proving your academic achievements and research capabilities.

9.Proof of language proficiency

To apply for courses taught in Chinese, applicants are required to submit proof of Chinese proficiency. A score report of HSK Level 4 with a score of 180 or above.

10.A scanned copy of the bio-data page of the applicant’s valid passport

11.Electronic ID photo of the applicant

Note: a. Materials that do not meet the requirements will not be accepted;

b. Regardless of whether applicants are admitted or not, the above materials will not be returned;

c. For documents/texts in a language other than Chinese and English, notarized Chinese or English versions must be submitted.

5. Selection Method, Admission and Notification

1. Applicants should contact the TUT by email or phone from January 5 to May 1, 2024, and scan all the application materials (including the Application Form and the passport’s bio-data page) before sending them to the International Students Office as an email attachment;

2.The International Students Office will review the materials submitted by the applicants together with relevant schools, departments, experts and the faculty from May 1 to May 20, 2024. During the expert review process, the applicants’ application materials will be inspected through applicant interviews or other means to verify the authenticity of the information in the Application Form and passport validity. Those who pass the interview and inspection are considered candidates to be admitted to the TUT.

3.The International Students Office will notify the candidates who are to be admitted by email, and the candidates to be admitted are required to pre-pay the registration fee (400 yuan) within the specified time frame. Those who fail to pre-pay the registration fee within the specified time frame will be disqualified from the pre-admission program.

4.Upon confirming the receipt of the prepaid registration fee, the TUT will issue an admission offer, the JW202 form and other admission materials to the formally admitted applicants.

8. Admission and Enrollment

1.The TUT reviews the comprehensive qualities of applicants through review of application materials, interviews, etc., and selects the best candidates for admission. The final category and level of scholarships received by students are determined by Tianjin University of Technology based on the ranking of students’ reviewed qualities and the number of available scholarships that year.

2.Applicants must accurately provide their email, phone number, and mailing address. During the period of pending admission, applicants must reply to the TUT’s emails in a timely manner; applicants who fail to reply in time or fail to submit supplementary materials as required within the specified time will be deemed to have waived the right to be admitted.

3.Once admitted, students are not allowed to change their major, study duration, or the language of instruction.

4.The TUT issues the Admission Offer and Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China to the admitted students for them to apply for a student visa in China. Those holding non-student visas will not be allowed to register at the TUT.

5.Admitted students must register at the TUT in strict accordance with the time, location and other requirements specified in the Admission Offer, usually in early September. Those who fail to complete the registration procedure for more than two weeks after the specified admission time will be disqualified from the admission and scholarships.

6.When registering for admission, students must bring the original copy of their highest academic degree certificate, the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners, the blood test form, HSK certification and originals of other relevant application materials. Those who fail to provide the above materials or fail to pass the material verification process will be disqualified from admission and scholarships.
